Palm kernel expeller (PKE) is the end product of the palm kernel processing process which can be used as raw material for animal feed of plant origin.
Not only is it very attractive to the export market, palm oil cake is also sought after by the Indonesian people to meet their livestock food needs. For oil palm central areas, the use of palm oil cake as raw material for animal feed may be commonplace, but for farmers who are outside the oil palm central provinces, the demand for palm oil cake is quite significant.
North Kalimantan Province, especially Nunukan Regency, has been able to make oil palm cake one of the leading commodities. A total of 3,000 tons of palm oil cake with an economic value of IDR 3 billion were sent to Gresik, East Java using the TB TNL 2501/TB.TRUST-16 ship via the Nunukan Seaport.
Tarakan Wilker Nunukan Agricultural Quarantine Officer, Noor Effendi, said that before sailing, the palm oil cake had been inspected with the aim of ensuring the correct type and amount.
Head of the Agricultural Quarantine Center, drh. Akhmad Alfaraby said the Tarakan Agricultural Quarantine always supports trade traffic in agricultural commodities by ensuring that agricultural products are free of OPT.
In the process of checking, palm oil cake will be subject to quarantine measures as stipulated in the Government Regulation, amounting to Rp. 250,000 per ton, entomology inspection fees of Rp. 10,000 per ton, and plus the cost of one certificate of Rp. 5,000 per ton.
In 2019, the palm kernel meal from Nunukan Regency was exported to Vietnam by PT Tirta Madu Sawit Jaya 5x with a volume of 2,089.45 tons and a total economic value of IDR 3.9 billion. During the period from January 2020 until now, these products are only marketed domestically.
The Tarakan Agricultural Quarantine has also certified 16 applications with a volume of 8,500 tons and an economic value of IDR 15.3 billion with the destinations of Surabaya and Gresik.
